Gaslight's “Inner City Sally” — Fun City vs. Suburb Life

Writer: Harsha ParakhHarsha Parakh
Gaslight’s latest track "Inner City Sally," released on January 24, 2025, is an upbeat and playful examination of the stark contrasts in attitudes between urban and suburban life. Chock full of tongue-in-cheek attitude and a classic rock vibe, ‘hot take’ is refreshing and relatable, perhaps their best song yet from a growing body of work.

A Melbourne-based rock trio, Gaslight is fronted by its guitarist and singer Ivan Beecroft, with the help of bassist Nikk Kourmouzis and drummer Mark Norton. The band melds old-school sounds with new-school narratives. With their studio located in the heart of Burwood, amongst the Heidelberg School artists trail, it has become the perfect creative space to carve out their authentic sound.

"Gaslight’s “Inner City Sally” is a couplets rock anthem that straddles the line between in-town heart and suburban soul!"

“Inner City Sally” is a bouncy mix of catchy instrumentals and clever rhyming that paints an amusing picture of two clashing cultures. The vintage-inspired production adds layers, while the peppy energy guarantees the track will go down well live and in studio. An infectious groove that keeps you hooked, thanks to the funky intro and tight rhythm section.

Drum and bass and piano chords that celebrate diversity in Melbourne with wit and rhythm (and no trite touristy references). Inner City Sally is a joyous feel-good track. So sit back, press play, and let Gaslight escort you right out of the head!
